Anis making offerings Tsogyal Shedrub Dargyeling Nunnery
As a complement to the large monastery, Penor Rinpoche has also established the Tsogyal Shedrub Dargyeling Nunnery, where nearly four hundred nuns study and practice. Many of them are enrolled in a parallel program to the full nine-year course offered by the Ngagyur Nyingma Institute where they receive teachings and instruction in Buddhist philosophy from the khenpos. In the photograph here, Penor Rinpoche and Khenpo Pema Sherab preside over an awards ceremony recognizing outstanding scholastic achievement among the nuns. The study program qualifies graduates to become ani khenpos (khenmos). There are nuns currently in their eighth year of study. These senior level nuns take an active role as revision teachers for the lower level classes and the nunnery has also sent one senior ani shedra student to teach in another nunnery in India.

HH the Dalai Lama visited Namdroling Monastery and toured the nunnery in 1996. He said to Penor Rinpoche, "For a very long time I have wanted to see a nunnery established in south India. Now you have fulfilled my wish."
